First home win over FC Barcelona in almost 12 years
With their victory against FC Barcelona on LaLiga Matchday 21, Valencia CF ended a drought of nearly 12 years without a win over the Catalan side at Mestalla.
The 2-0 triumph was the first such result for the club since the 2007/08 season, when Valencia CF bested Barça 3-2 at home in the semifinals of the Copa del Rey -a competition they would go on to win. That time around, two goals from Juan Mata and a strike from Rubén Baraja were enough for VCF, whilst on this occasion Maxi Gómez' brace proved to be decisive.
In league competition, the run had stretched back to February of 2007. The streak-breaking win means that, after facing Real Madrid, Barça, Sevilla FC and Villarreal CF, Albert Celades' side are still one of only three teams unbeaten at home in LaLiga.
